January 29, 2009: Nursery League Dinnner
We had our nursery league end of season dinner this week. Off we all trotted to the White Hart in Llandeilo for a finger licking meal of roast turkey, roast beef and all the trimmings. One could be forgiven if we thought it was Christmas all over again, but without the 'Brynberllan' turkeys on the menu.

Mike won a super wee trophy for winning the Carmarthenshire league with Chip, 3 points ahead of Angie and Kinloch Ace. That means Brynberllan Farm took first and second places in our league. Both Chip and Ace are going to be competing in the US this year - Chip in the east, Ace in the west. Mike is now talking tough about beating Angie again next year (and the year after), and Angie is out training and not saying anything!

Now nursery dinners in Carmarthenshire can be quite exciting...with Calvin Jones in the picture. Calvin is the Prez so he gets to do the speech and generally run the show. Sometimes things get a little wild....coz anyone who knows Calvin knows he's a bit wild. Factor in kiwi Kelvin and well, it's trouble on steriods.

Even Calvin's father, Tom Jones, can't keep Calvin under control. Tom is a fine handler and in his 80s, he can still teach the young whipper-snappers a thing or two about handling a dog. How on earth Tom had a son like Calvin we don't know!

It was a terrific evening with almost everyone winning a draw prize in the raffle. Kelvin won a big tin of Roses chocolates and ate half the tin the next day! It was the Welsh Valentines Day on Sunday so he felt he had good reason to scoff the chocolates.

Anyway....the pups are all doing great although they are of the age now where they are starting to have disagreements. Jenna decided last week that she would start playing and barking at the others at 11pm every night. She quickly found out that we didn't like that and she and Tim are now separated from the rest at night. Peaceful sleeps all around!

Tim might be the smallest in the litter but when there is a big dog to play with and chase, he never gives up trying to catch them. He sure is a go-getter. He adores Tina and has missed her over the last couple of weeks. Tina injured her knee while putting some lambs away after they escaped onto the road. She has been out for a few weeks and it will be a few weeks more before she sees sheep again. We are not quite sure how she injured herself as she was out of sight at the time but by the looks of the gash on her leg, she ran into something.

Angie gave Bee her first wee go on sheep this week and was pleased with her. Cian went along for the walk and he thought he was the 'bees knees' (excuse the pun) to be able to go up to the training field with Bee and Angie. He was desperate to have a go but he will have to wait, impatiently, for his turn.

Cian discovered pig's ears today! We sometimes give all the bigger dogs a treat of a pig's ear. As disgusting as they sound, dogs love 'em! Anyway, Jasper had dropped some of his pig's ear out of his kennel and Cian scooped it up quicker than one can blink, and just as quickly disappeared. After searching high and low for him, we went back into the shed and searched everywhere. Tucked away in the corner was little Cian chewing noiselessly on a small piece of ear. He was being as quiet as a church mouse so as not to be discovered. Thankfully the lure of a dinner bowl tempted him out of the corner and back to his kennel.

Not too much else happening. Weather forecast says we'll get snow soon and it's certainly cold enough. Mind you, we were supposed to get rain yesterday and all we got was sunshine all day long. No complaints about that! It was a fabulous day.
